Today our host family that owns our apartment took us to the natural hot springs that come from the volcano. The volcano is currently erupting. We can see if from our apartment window early morning when it is clear. Vlima, our host brought us around to three hot springs. She speaks little English, but did a great job. Her husband, Ivan speaks a lot more Enlgish than she does. It was an adventure communicating with one another, but we did fairly well.
The hot springs were beautiful. That is an understatement. We saw three hot springs. Later in the evening we went back to enjoy one of them. There was a party of 10 year old girls celebrating the end of their ice skating season there. After about 5 min. in the hot spring, Alli and I were swarmed with about 15 girls asking where we were from, wanting us to speak English, showing us the little English they know and more. We were the main attraction for the rest of the evening.
We ate our first real meal out at the hot springs. I ordered my favorite queso and chips… you can see the picture of what it was! I was trying to try new things in a new culture… Umm… it was “new” and “different.” The rest of our meal was fabulous!
We are very glad to be able to go places outside of the city. I think we felt like prisioners in the city for a week. We now have quite a few places lined up to visit. This weekend we will journey to the coffee farms for two nights with another adopting family. We are told we’ll have our own Villa, pool and jucuzzi. Could be nice.
Alli and I also got to go shopping for a bit just the two of us. That was very good for both of us.
I don’t think we’ll be going to Cartegena. The expense is too much and I think Lanie needs the consistency of this place and routine to work through the transition. Oh we’ll…
Lanie continues to be very expressive. Full of joy, energy, dancing, smiles as well as expressing herself in other very challenging ways. She’s a delight, but a handful. She seems to pick up the few English words she’s been taught well though.
