Ok. Heres a long post. Most wont be this long. It’s also from my iPad which makes editing and correct grammar almost impossible right now. So if my students are reading any of this think of kit as Mrs. Sullivan’s rough draft.
Our Lanier is quite a fun kid! She’s high energy, all smiles, very affectionate, not afraid of much and wants to explore everything. Here are a few of her favorite things from today:
1. The escalator. The look on her face when she got on the escalator at the shopping plaza was priceless! You would have thought she’d discovered gold. We probably could have just gone up and down it all day and she’d have been great.
2. Taking pictures and video and watching them on the phone or iPad. She loves to see pictures of herself and us. If she never discovered the escalator shed have been fine looking at pictures on the iPad all day. We are working on her understanding it is Mom’s and not hers and thus cache can’t just go get it. :-).
3. Hugs and Kisses (abrazos y besos) – She loves affection and offers and askS for it often. She is a very fun girl.
We spent the day some in our apartment dancing, playing games, dolls etc We walked to a park this morning. There are loads of hills to climb and walk down to get anywhere here. She did great with it. We wore her out (I think that was intentional). after lunch and a nap we went tot the shopping plaza. They are having some festive national holiday here and they know how to celebrate. There were lots of beautiful Colombian dresses with dancers and live bands everywhere. We’re now having video time. :-). It was in her routine they told its to keep so I’m just following orders, however, she doesn’t seem to like it and is instead right ne t to Alli watching what she is doing. I guess she doesn’t like Veggie Tales in SpAmish.
overall she’s such a fun and energetic kid. We are excited to have her join our family and she seems VERY happy to have us. They say this is the honeymoon phase so we’ll see how it goes. For those of you who know my sweet nephew Zachary. Lanie Is a 5 yr. old girl Zachary that speaks Spanish!
We are speaking Spanish almost all of the time with the help of a Spanish app, our limited knowledge and a little book full of phrases. We are working to understand her more. It’s like understanding a little child with brood vocabulary who does not have as much clarity speaking as an adult, but they are speaking Spanish. We are getting better at understanding though. During her nap we spoke English and all played Skip Bo. It was wonderful to speak English!
Alli is doing great as a big sister. They have fun together.
We are 4 days in and getting a little caBin fever. We have a long way to go. We are going to try and find many other places to visit each day. You know we aren’t good with just hanging for a long time. Where is my to-do list? The ICBF staff told us to just “relax” and wait around as we’ll be here a while. I’m so glad that my sister comes when Scott leaves!
By the way- Lanie likes chicken so we’re going to be just fine!
