Day 24 – Our New Normal

First off…here is my disclaimer for all posts. I do these on my iPad and it messes up my words and is extremely difficult to edit so I know all of the posts are a mess. Sorry… Now you know what it’s like to be a first grade teacher trying to read kid’s writing!

Our first day in country alone was ok. Vilma took us zapato shopping (shoes). outings with Vilma are always an adventure. Shes great!  very fun and sweet. I hear she can salsa dancE very well. Maybe shell teach us how to dance. Anyways… buying shoes with limited Spanish is umm…. uhh…. interesting. You use a lot of gestures, vocabulary that isnt quite right but will get your point across and you make extreme facial expressions to help communicate. The Spanish people are very expressive in general so it works. Most things are more expensive here, but she knew this great place to get good shoes cheep!  I got two pairs for $40. Ok… When you are in a foreign country alone without much to do, getting two pair of shoes for $40 becomes big news for the day!  After shopping she brought us to her house for lunch. Lanie had a blast making paper airplanes and flying them through their house and hugging all of their daughters stuffed animals. She is a hoot!  Vilma said “You’ll never be bored with her around.” That’s true!  Tomorrow they are taking us to a big music festival here. This really has been a nice place to visit. We love the people.  Stephanie said she was now so accustom to talking to, hugging and kisses everyone.  When she returns to the US, she might be disappointed by the coldness of people and might forget and just keep kissing everyone she meets when she returns.

Lanie was again a sweetheart today. We did a lot of English practicing and practiced some preschool work  She loves to play games and do preschool work with me. She also LOVES to clean. She made her bed all by herself to surprise me, cleaned up the dishes and loaded the washing machine. I can’t wait for many of you to meet her. She’ll be timid the first 10 minutes and then she’ll be your new best friend laughing and joking around.

Another very sad thing is that all of the chocolate I brought is almost gone. Thankfully I found a French bakery here today!!!!  So… When alone in a foreign country with little to do,  a girl can survive on shopping for shoes with Spanish speaking friends and chocolate. I’m not sure that speaks well of me…

I’ve made myself a todo list for the next few weeks to do during Lanie’s independent plat time and while she is asleep. It contains things like make a shutterfly book, watch the movies on Netflix I never get to see and read a few eBooks. If anyone has movie suggestions, email me.  This is such a weird experience. I usually can’t get everything accomplished on my to-do list and now I’m putting “extra fluffy” stuff on the list just so I can have a list and feel productive.
