Day 25 – Music Festival and more

Lanie LOVES to take pictures. She took this at the Coffee place that is like our Starbucks, except its outdoors. We listened to the music festival here.

Street entertainers are common at stop lights. Here is one doing a routine with fire sticks throwing and twisting them.

Our morning was a bit “normal” if there is a normal here. We did moRe school and English learning games. Lanie overall is still full of smiles and affection, but she definitely tested the boundaries some today.

Then we went walking to the HomeCenter. It’s like a Lowes, Ikea, bed, bath, and Beyond all together place. I felt like I was back in the US except everyone spoke Spanish… Which isn’t too unusual for Texas anyways. The exciting purchase for today was a broom. Our apartment is great, except the broom here is horrific. My sister refused to sweep because of it. I also purchased a lighter for the stove so that I don’t burn off my fingers using the cigarette lighter. I guess I’m no good with those things. Y’all can rest better knowing I won’t be using a cigarette lighter anymore.

Our hosts then took us to the Music Festival and to Chipree for dinner and to see the beauty of the city at night. It was a very nice time talking with them. Evidentally, Vilma is an excellent Salsa dancer. I asked her to teach me some moves this week. I’m sure it will just be a lot of laughs. Lanie will probably do great though. They are a neat family to hang and talk with.  I have learned so many interesting things about the culture here from them.

I currently have someone taking us somewhere every day until Wednesday so all is well. It really is good to just be with Lanie. I think we will make a lot of progress, but I sure am going to LOVE getting home to everyone.
